How about getting two nationally ranked wrestlers at the same time! That's precisely what Iowa women's wrestling head coach Clarissa Chung accomplished on Monday. Twins Brianna and Emilie Gonzalez announced Monday that they're joining Chun and the Hawkeyes in Iowa City this fall. They are the fifth and sixth (second and third from California) recruits from the Class of 2022 to join the inaugural Iowa women's wrestling recruiting class. The announcement came via the Wreaper Wrestling Instagram page. https://www.instagram.com/p/CaQpEDnMgUg/ This past summer, the Arroyo High School products made headlines inside the Fargodome after storming to the Fargo Junior finals at 100 pounds. Brianna and Emilie shared the crown rather than wrestle against one another. Brianna, USA Wrestling's No. 13 pound-for-pound recruit in the senior class and No. 1 at 100 pounds, defeated No. 2 freshman Ava Ward (Centralia, Mo.) at the 2021 Who's #1 event before the start of the 2021-22 season. The Gonzalez sisters also faced off at National Recruiting Showcase last spring, where Briana got the finals win over Emilie. USA Wrestling has Emilie currently ranked No. 15 at 106 pounds The Baldwin Park, California, natives have won some hardware on the international scene recently, too. At the 2021 Pan American Championships, the twins both took home gold just weeks before securing their Fargo stop sign. Brianna and Emilie are expected to train in Iowa City and compete unattached in 2022-23. The women's team is slated for its inaugural season in 2023-24.
