This celebration inspires girls and women to play and be active, to realize their full power. The confidence, strength and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life. This year’s event will also serve as the kickoff of WSF’s activations for the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, happening throughout 2022."

In honor of #NGWSD, I decided to re-share a story that I wrote during my final quarter (June 2020) as a graduate student and wrestling reporter at the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
The story, titled, "Wrestling, girls do it too" examines the rise of women’s wrestling in the United States since the turn of the 21st century.
The article was finished on June 3, 2020, and the data, statistics, and job titles reflect that. While the figures referenced here are 18 months old, they still serve as an excellent reminder of just how much women's wrestling has grown within that span. It's remarkable to see just how much the sport has grown (and continues to grow) in such a short time!
Even in the COVID-19 Era, the sport of women's wrestling is not only surviving, but thriving. Still, there is much more growth and advancement to be achieved in the years to come. The women's wrestling has come a long way, but is not where it needs to be just yet (as you'll read below). But it will get there!!
With that, a very happy #NGWSD 2022 to all.
