The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan wrestling team (3-0) will kick off the New Year with a non-conference matchup against No. 6 Arizona State (3-1) on Monday (Jan. 3) in Austin, Texas. Hosted by FloWrestling, the dual is slated for a 7 p.m. CST start at the JW Marriott.

Wolverine Bites

• Four Wolverines are slated to make their season dual-meet debuts against ASU on Monday. Graduate student Stevan Micic, a 2020 Olympian, has not competed since the 2018-19 season and will make his debut up at 141 pounds. He was previously a three-time NCAA All-American at 133 pounds. Graduate students Logan Massa and Myles Amine, an 2020 Olympic bronze medalist, will compete at 174 and 184 pounds, respectively, while senior/junior Mason Parris will slot in at heavyweight. All three are ranked top six at their respective weight classes.

• Amine made his debut at the Matmen Open last week (Dec. 29-30), posting a 4-0 record en route to the 184-pound title and the tournament's outstanding wrestler honors. It also was his debut at 184 pounds after wrestling at 197 last season, and he defeated a familiar foe in NCAA champion and former Penn State standout Mark Hall, 4-2, in the final, scoring the deciding points off a last-second takedown in the first period. It was Amine's first win over Hall; he went 0-5 against the Nittany Lion while both were in college -- all five matches were decided by a single point.

• Michigan boasted four champions at the Cleveland State Open (Dec. 11) -- Drew Mattin (133 pounds), Pat Nolan (141), Logan Massa (174) and Mason Parris (Hwt). It was the season debut for All-Americans Massa and Parris. Massa, who recently enrolled in school second semester to use his free COVID season, went 5-0 with four bonus wins, including a 19-3 technical over Ohio State's Fritz Schierl in the final. Parris similarly went 5-0 with five bonus wins; he pinned Indiana's Jacob Bullock at 6:02 in the championship final.

• Sophomore/freshman Dylan Ragusin captured the 133-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 3-4) with a 4-0 record and a 9-5 decision against Northwestern's No. 6 Chris Cannon in the championship bout. It was Ragusin's first collegiate match against Cannon, but he avenged a loss in their last meeting in the semifinals at the U23 Freestyle World Team Trials in May. U-M has boasted six CKLV champions over the last five tournaments.

• Michigan has claimed bonus points in 15 of its 27 dual-meet wins this season. Ragusin, fifth-year senior Jelani Embree and graduate student Patrick Brucki have earned bonus in all three dual appearances.

• Head coach Sean Bormet is in his fourth season at the helm of the Wolverine program. Under his guidance, the Wolverines have compiled a 28-8 dual-meet record, including an 18-6 mark in Big Ten duals, and has posted back-to-back fifth-place NCAA finishes in 2019 and 2021. Michigan has boasted eight different All-Americans over the last three seasons.

Scouting the Opponent

Arizona State: The Sun Devils enter the dual with a 3-1 record and posted a 2-1 mark at the Collegiate Wrestling Duals in their most recent action on Dec. 20-21. ASU opened the event with wins over Hofstra (42-4) and No. 7 Virginia Tech (23-12) before falling to No. 2 Penn State (29-10) in its finale. Eight Sun Devil wrestlers are ranked nationally at their respective weights, most notably four in the four: No. 4 Brandon Courtney (125 pounds), No. 4 Michael McGee (133), No. 3 Jacori Teemer (157) and No. 3 Cohlton Schultz (Hwt). Michigan leads, 6-3, in the all-time series against Arizona State and has claimed each of the last four meetings, including a 23-12 victory -- with wins in each of the last six matches -- in Tempe in January 2019. The Sun Devils edged U-M out for an NCAA team trophy last season in St. Louis, claiming fourth place at the national tournament by five points over the fifth-place Wolverines.

The Wolverines claimed third place at the annual Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational nearly a month ago (Dec. 3-4), boasting an individual champion and six total placewinners. Dylan Ragusin captured the 133-pound title, defeating Northwestern's Chris Cannon, 9-5, in the championship bout to garner U-M's sixth CKLV crown over the last five tournaments. #4/5 ASU Takes on #3/3 Michigan Monday in Texas

TEMPE - It's going down in Texas. No. 4/5 Arizona State (3-1) travels to the JW Marriott in Austin, Texas to take on No. 3 Michigan (3-0) Monday night at 6 p.m. MST/ 7 p.m. CST. The action will stream live via FloWrestling with live results via Trackwrestling. The star-studded dual features a pair of teams that finished in the top-5 at last year's NCAA Championships along with 12 All-Americans across both rosters.

Sun Devil Notables
* ASU is 3-1 on the year with wins over No. 17 Oklahoma, Hofstra, and No. 7 Virginia Tech.

Teemer and Parco both earned tech falls over their Hoftstra opponents, while Valencia pinned his opponent in less than 30 seconds. Norfleet and Schultz both earned major decisions. Courtney also won with a fall.
Against Virginia Tech, Parco earned a MD over Montgomery, and Norfleet earned one over Howard.
