Sunday afternoon, just a day after University of Iowa coaches Tom and Terry Brands were at FloWrestling’s Who’s Number One in Dallas, Texas, they received a huge verbal commitment from Iowa City High junior Ben Kueter, who intends to wrestle and play football for the Hawks.
“Excited to announce I will be committing to the university of Iowa!! Go hawks🐤🐤,” Kueter said.
The post also included a graphic that showed Kueter wearing an Iowa football uniform and a Hawkeye wrestling singlet.

Now a third-year at Iowa City High in Iowa City, Iowa, Kueter is a four-sport athlete for the Little Hawks, playing baseball and running track. Kueter is the first wrestling recruit to pledge to the Black and Gold out of either the Class of 2022 or the Class of 2023.
On the mat, Kueter has two Iowa Class 3A state titles in as many attempts and possesses an unblemished 35-0 career record. His first state crown came as a freshman at 160 pounds. Last year as a sophomore, he bumped up to 195 pounds and won it all once again.
This summer, Kueter saw success on the freestyle scene in Fargo, making it to the Junior division finals, where he was a runner-up at 220 pounds. He has a Junior folkstyle national title among his rather lengthy list of accolades as well.
It should be interesting to see how Kueter juggles his football and wrestling responsibilities for the Big Ten power. Either way, Tom Brands and Kirk Ferentz have to be thrilled because they are getting one heck of an athlete with freakish athleticism.
