Latest from the Gable Steveson Saga: WWE Seems Most Likely

We have not heard the news directly from Gable himself about the next professional pathway the 2020 Olympic gold medalist, 2021 NCAA champion, and 2021 co-Hodge Trophy recipient plans to explore next. Still, all signs seem to be pointing to the WWE as we turn the calendar to September.

Since winning gold in Tokyo, Steveson has been jet-setting on a post-Olympic media tour that has taken him to a myriad of different places. The Minnesota Gopher, Steveson, has gone on a media tour unlike anything we have seen before for an Olympic wrestler.

Thus far, Gable has done media interviews on prominent podcasts Pardon My Take and the Pat McAfee Show. He has done TV interviews with everything from local stations to national outlets like ESPN. Plus, we have seen Gable at major public events like a  Minnesota Vikings preseason game and SummerSlam, to name a few.

The big man from Apple Valley, Minnesota, also was at WrestleMania 37, NXT Takeover, and threw out the first pitch at a Minnesota Twins baseball game after winning his NCAA heavyweight title back in March.

Gable’s success on the mat in 2021, coupled with the immense media exposure that followed, has caused his personal social media following to skyrocket. Only freestyle veteran and 2012 Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs remains above Gable in terms of total followers. Despite having less five months on the Senior circuit, Gable is above most other high-profile American freestylers.

While Steveson has kept his next move tight-lipped, he has had fun with fans, tweeting waving emojis to Vince McMahan and Dana White. He has also hyped-up University of Minnesota football content and the NFL’s Vikings content involving him. There are even betting odds in Vegas about Gable’s next career move.

Well, late Monday, August 30, the Gable Steveson saga seemed to take a very significant turn. The WWE announced that Steveson’s older brother Bobby Steveson, also a former Golden Gopher wrestler, joined the WWE Performance Center.

Bobby also followed up the WWE's announcement with the following series of tweets over the last 24 hours.

At this stage, all we know is that Gable has declined the opportunity to wrestle at the 2021 World Championships in October in Oslo, Norway.

As for which professional organization America’s most popular heavyweight chooses to align with next, we still have to wait.

However, it seems that the writing is on the wall, and Gable will be joining his brother Bobby in the WWE.
