Hendey to be Next Assistant Coach for Women's Wrestling at Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Colorado Mesa women's wrestling coach Travis Mercado announced the hiring of the program's first-ever assistant coach in Amanda Hendey.
 
"I am exhilarated about Amanda joining our program. She brings wealth of knowledge with her success on the mat at the collegiate, national, and international levels," coach Mercado said. "I know Amanda's impact in our program is going to be huge and help us move forward in our quest for a national championship as a team."
 
Hendey brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the coaching staff as she has competed at the senior national and international levels of competition. She is a three-time Team USA member and was a three-time Senior Pan American Championships medalist. She won the 2016 U.S. Open and was a University World Silver Medalist.
 
She earned her degree from King University where she competed for the Tornado Wrestling program where she was a Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) National Champion. She earned her degree in Business Sports Management and a minor in Coaching.
 
Amanda will join the Maverick program that will be entering their fourth season and have already made a name for themselves on the national level with two fourth-place team finishes at the National Championships.
