Image courtesy of USA Wrestling.   On Monday night, session four of wrestling at the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games saw Team USA bring home its first wrestling Olympic medal of Tokyo 2020. Adeline Gray etched her name in USA Olympic history,  bringing home Olympic silver. She did so at 76 kg. Similarly, Gray’s teammate, fellow No.1-seed Tamyra Mensah Stock, advanced to the 68 kg gold-medal match tomorrow during session six at the Games. Also of note, the 97 kg Greco semifinal, Tadeusz Michalik (Poland) fell to Musa Evloev (ROC) 7-1. With the Evolev win, Team USA’s G’Angelo Hancock is finished in Tokyo. He ended 1-1 overall. After earning an opening-round 10-0 tech that took only a little over two minutes, the five-time World champion Gray made her next two matches nail-bitters that required Gray to fend off opposing attacks and scrambles in the waning seconds of the bout. Gray’s gold-medal match was more of the same. The Denver, Colorado native Gray fell behind 3-0 at the break due to a passivity point a counter on Gray’s single-leg shot attempt. Down 3-0 at the break, her opponent, Aline Rotter Focken of Germany, added a four-point throw to extend the lead. Gray recorded a step-out point and a takedown of her own, but ultimately fell 7-3 to take home the silver medal. Rotter Focken is her country's first Women's freestyle gold medalist.  https://twitter.com/NBCOlympics/status/1422170706788429824 Mensah Stock, a 2019 World champion herself, was able to take out 2018 World champion Alla Cherkasova of Ukraine in the 68 kg semifinals 10-4. In doing so, she earned the right to compete for gold tomorrow. In the semifinals, the American got an early takedown to take a narrow 2-0 lead. From there, the top-seed weathered adversity, giving up a go-behind and turn to trail 4-2 in the second. However, Mensah Stock responded convincingly after the restart, rattling off eight consecutive points to win 10-4. Her eight-point run included a reversal to tie it at 4-4, followed by two more takedowns, one of which had a turn attached.  https://twitter.com/TeamUSA/status/1422140205700575236 Mensah Stock’s path to the finals included two dominant 10-0 techs and the aforementioned 10-4 decisions. The American will face Blessing Oborududu (Nigeria) with a gold medal up for grabs. Oborududu, now a three-time Olympian, qualified for Tokyo through the African/Oceania Olympic Qualifier.
