Graphic courtesy of the California RTC.  Just three weeks after blustering the Stanford coaching staff with the addition of Enock Francois and Vincenzo Joseph, the California RTC has added some extra firepower of its own with three new resident athletes.  Official release from Gary Abbott/USA Wrestling.  This week, the California RTC, which is based in Stanford, Calif., announced via Twitter that it has added three Senior athletes to its RTC roster, former Nebraska star Tyler Berger, former Missouri star Grant Leeth and former Cornell star Ben Honis. In a letter to alumni and supporters of the Stanford wrestling program, new Stanford head coach Rob Koll wrote this about the California RTC and the new athletes who have agreed to train with. In addition to our Stanford staff I am thrilled to add the first of what I expect will be a large and talented contingent of California Regional Training Center athletes. Tyler Berger, Ben Honis and Grant Leeth have accepted their offers. Grant is currently in town and the other two will be making their way to Palo Alto later this summer. Ben Honis Ben enjoyed a successful collegiate career for Cornell earning All-American honors one time but has really excelled upon graduation. Ben competes at 97kg and has placed 2nd and 5th at the US open, and competed in the 2020(1) Olympic Team Trials. I have known Ben since he was a little tyke. He grew up a few miles north of Ithaca and has been wrestling in our local wrestling club since he was able to lace up his wrestling shoes. Grant Leeth Graduate from the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in Health as well as earning his degree from the Missouri’s Crosby MBA program. Battled injuries throughout his career but still amassed a 61-15 career record. In the 2017-18 season he earned All-America status and won his first conference title. That same year he became an All-American with a 6th place finish at the NCAA Championships. He went 204-12 in high school, won freestyle nationals, Super 32 and was a 3x Missouri state champion.. Tyler Berger Tyler wrestled for University of Nebraska. He finished his career as one of the most decorated Huskers of all-time. He placed three times at the NCAA tournament, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, while compiling a 138-39 career record. For the past three season’s Tyler has served as the Volunteer Assistant for Nebraska. A Prineville, OR., native, Berger was a four-time state champion at Crook County High School, where he amassed a career record of 198-3. He graduated from Nebraska in May of 2019 with a degree in psychology.
