Parkland Becomes 13th School in Pennsylvania to Add a Girl's wrestling Program

Image courtesy of PA-Wrestling.com.  June was an excellent month for girls wrestling in Pennsylvania, as more and more school districts are continuing to add the sport for girls. On June 22, Parkland became the 13th school in Pennsylvania to approve an official girl's wrestling program. During the 2019-20 school year, Parkland had more girls on its roster than any other Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) school. All 12 PIAA districts now have girls wrestling within their area schools. The Western Wayne School District became the 11th school district in Pennsylvania to add girls wrestling on June 16. The Bald Eagle Area School District became the 12th school district in Pennsylvania to add girls wrestling just one day later. The other schools to add girl's wrestling in Pennsylvania are Annville-Cleona, Brandywine Heights, Central Mountain, Delaware Valley, Gettysburg, Governor Mifflin, Lancaster McCaskey, and North Allegheny. Participation in Pennsylvania high school girls wrestling has grown more than 30 percent in the 2020-21 school year, according to SanctionPA. According to the PIAA, Pennsylvania will join 32 other states and sanction girls wrestling and offer a girls wrestling state championship when 100 schools offer the sport.
