After a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the action got underway today, June 22, at the AAU Wrestling 2021 Scholastic Duals, which took place at the award-winning Orange County Convention Center West Concourse in Orlando, Florida.

Competitors from all across the nation took to the mats during Day One of this six-day wrestling tournament known as Disney Duals. The event comprised greater than 1,000 athletes competing from more than 21 states. This tourney showcases some of the best middle school and high school grapplers in the nation.

Most notably, the MAWA Warriors out of Pennsylvania looked unbeatable. The All-Star squad from the Keystone State is searching for its third consecutive All-Star Division crown after clinching back-to-back titles for All-Star Gold in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

While it is still early, the statistics that MAWA produced today were staggering. Here are 11 noteworthy MAWA Warriors' nuggets from Day One at Disney:

  • team wins.
  • team losses. (And 0 individual bout losses for MAWA, excluding one forfeit).
  • 370 total team points scored in a combined five team dual meet matches.
  • 6 team points surrendered to an opposing team. (Those six points came via a single forfeit).

  • 9 technical falls earned as a team in 63 total individual bouts (Once again, forfeits excluded).
  • 10 major decisions collected by MAWA as a team in 63 total individual bouts (Again, forfeits excluded).
  • 133 seconds. The total mat time for TOM’s No. 2 Class of 2022 recruit, Nic Bouzakis, to record five falls in as many attempts. Every pin came in 45 seconds or less.
