Today, one of the best 165-pounders in the country, Evan Wick, announced he is headed home to wrestle for the Cal Poly Mustangs during his final year of NCAA eligibility in 2021-22.  "The times I've made the most progress in wrestling and wrestled my best is when I'm happy, not necessarily when I have the greatest resources, which I think both schools [Penn State and Cal-Poly] have incredible resources," Wick said on FloWrestling Radio Live on Tuesday. "But I really wanted to focus in on where I was happy and I felt incredibly happy at Cal Poly during my visit." Evan's younger brother, Luka, is will be a true freshman for Cal Poly in 2021-22 under Cal Poly head coach Jon Sioredas. The elder Wick, a Murrieta, California, native is a two-time NCAA All-American and a three-time NCAA qualifier in as many attempts. Wick has placed as high as third (2017-18) and fourth (2018-19) at nationals. During each podium run as both a freshman and sophomore, Wick was 30-7 and 32-6. As a junior in 2019-20, Wick battled injury. As such, he did not compete at the 2020 Big Ten Championship but qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championship via an at-large bid and received the eighth seed in the 165-pound bracket. Wick took another redshirt this past season in 2021 and will have one year of eligibility left in with the Mustangs.  On the freestyle circuit, Wick has been equally as impressive recently. He finished in fourth place at the 74 kg Olympic Trials last month with impressive wins over Logan Massa, Chance Marsteller, and Thomas Gantt.  For the first time since the 2006-07 season that the Cal Poly will havea pair of returning All-Americans in the starting lineup. The other AA being Bernie Truax, Wick's training partner.
