OAXTEPEC, Mexico – Team USA wrapped up a successful Cadet and Junior Pan American Championships, earning 11 gold medals and one silver medal in the final day of competition in Oaxtepec, Mexico.

Contested today were the finals weights in Junior men’s freestyle and Cadet Greco-Roman. The U.S. took team titles in both divisions.

Across the six tournaments this weekend, USA won 42 gold medals, 10 silver medals and two bronze medals in addition to team titles in all six divisions.

Junior men’s freestyle
The USA qualified all six men’s freestyle weight for the Junior Pan American Games in Cali, Colombia, in December, thanks to medal-winning performances from Darrien Roberts (86 kg), Santos Cantu (97 kg) and Josh Heindelsman (125 kg).

Athletes who finish top-eight in the Olympic weight classes qualify their countries for the Pan Am Games.

Roberts won gold at 86 kg edging out Liosbel Hernandez Bustamante of Cuba, 6-5, in the finals. Heindelsman also scored a gold medal at 125 kg with a 3-0 record, including two pins. Wrestling at 97 kg, Cantu earned a silver medal after going 3-1 on Sunday.

Edward Scott (70 kg), Jacob Logan (79 kg) and Tyler Hannah (92 kg) won gold medals at the non-Olympic weights.

The USA secured the team title with 230 points. Mexico was second with 129 points and Canada took third with 123 points.

The U.S. Cadet Greco-Roman team completed a perfect week, sweeping all 20 gold medals in men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. Today, the squad picked up the final six gold medals in the Cadet division.

The six champions today included Brock Bobzien (60 kg), Pierson Manville (65 kg), Thor Michaelson (71 kg), Ryder Rogotzke (80 kg), Peter Casale (92 kg) and Jim Mullen (110 kg), who all picked up their second gold medals of the week, adding to their freestyle titles.
