Braxton Amos (Mineral Wells, W.V./Wisconsin RTC) has been selected as USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on May 4, 2021.

Amos was an all-star at this weekend’s Junior Nationals, making the 2021 Junior World Team in men’s freestyle and Greco-Roman. Throughout the weekend, in two tournaments, Amos gave up only four points, which came in 10th and final bout of the weekend.

In the Greco-Roman division, Amos began his tournament with a three-straight first-period technical falls, defeating Rashawn Turner, Joey Braunagel and Isaac Trumble, to earn a spot in the best-of-three finals, where he took on Christian Carroll of the Midwest RTC.

To win the Greco finals, Amos collected an 8-0 win in 48 seconds and a 10-0 victory in 44 seconds over Carroll.

En route to his spot on the men’s freestyle Junior World Team, Amos claimed three more first-period technical falls to sail to the finals, dominating Peter Ming, Seth Nitzel and Gage Linahon. In the championship series, Amos faced off against Carroll once again.

Amos turned in a 10-0 win in 45 seconds and a 14-4 win in 1:54 to wrap up his outstanding weekend.

Overall, the Badger won 10 matches, all by technical fall, outscoring his opponents 101-4. He will represent the USA at the 2021 Junior World Championships in Russia in August.

Amos also recently competed at the Olympic Team Trials in both Greco-Roman and men’s freestyle, dominating his way to the Greco finals.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the senior level. Twitter fan votes also play a part in decision.
