Intern –The Open Mat

TOM produces wrestling rankings, results, event coverage, breaking news, and more. We cover every level of men’s and women’s wrestling, both domestically and internationally.
As an intern with TheOpenMat.com, you are surrounded by wrestling professionals that love the sport of wrestling and want to help the sport grow and prosper in every way. If you have a deep passion for the sport as a writer, reporter, photographer, ranker, podcaster, vlogger, social media guru, stats savant, or fantasy wrestling enthusiast, we want to hear from you!
We have a national following, including more than 28,000 Twitter followers, 5,500 Facebook followers, 17,000 Instagram followers, and a newsletter that reaches roughly 14,000 people, so your work will be seen!
We are looking for highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starters who are coachable and eager to learn. We want our Interns ready to make an instant contribution to a leading digital information source for wrestling that delivers content tailored to all levels of wrestling.
Tasks for our various TOM Interns could include – but are not exclusive to the following:
+ Collegiate and international wrestling coverage
+ Written features including, but not limited to: previews, recaps, feature/human interest stories, wrestler profiles, industry trend and analysis articles, opinion pieces, data-driven pieces, and more related to the wrestling landscape
+ Assisting with our national high school and collegiate rankings. This role will include providing national and/or regional rankings and additional written and/or video content surrounding these various ranking sets
+ Podcast production and editing with possible on-air appearances
+ Proactively assisting Site Editor to contact primary sources and write updates on leading high school recruits
+ Website maintenance
+ Providing additional support to other TOM staff as assigned
Required Skills/Interests:
+ Must be passionate and familiar with wrestling (terminology, scoring, stats, etc.)
+ Strong writer, editor, researcher, and interviewer/communicator
+ Some familiarity with Microsoft Office, Excel, and Photoshop, and various social media channels
+ Creative, motivated, self-starter, innovative thinker, willing to learn
Desired Skills:
+ Familiarity with youth wrestling, college wrestling, international wrestling, and the college wrestling recruiting process
+ Understanding of U.S. wrestling landscape
+ WordPress CMS, Photoshop, and podcast production/editing knowledge

Pay: Non-paid, College Credit Available
