Thursday evening, the Ohio State Buckeyes got a huge commitment from the Class of 2022. Literally and figuratively! Nick Feldman (Malvern Prep, PA), the top big man, in the junior class, announced his intention to wrestle for Tom Ryan’s team at the next level. Feldman has risen up the board for the Class of 2022 within the last year-plus. He was a finalist at both the Walsh Ironman, the Powerade, and Escape the Rock, along with claiming titles at the Beast of the East and National Preps. Nick ascended to the top spot in the nation at 220 lbs after a surprisingly dominant 13-5 major decision over Kyle Haas (Maize, KS) at Who’s #1. Since then, he bonus-pointed his way through the Journeymen Fall Classic.

Feldman’s real breakout could have been in the summer of 2019 when he won the 16U Greco National Championship in Fargo and took third at the freestyle tournament. That was at 182 lbs, just a few months after he took fifth at National Preps while competing at 160 lbs. Sandwiched in between those two events was an NHSCA Freshman National title at 170.

The Buckeyes are in the process of putting together an impressive Class of 2022, one that will challenge for the top spot in the nation. Feldman is the third verbal from the junior class, joining #8 Seth Shumate (Dublin Coffman, OH) and #66 Gavin Brown (Legacy Christian Academy, OH). Shumate is projected to wrestle at 197 and will form a formidable tag team on the back half of the Ohio State lineup. The two actually met in the 2019 Ironman finals, with Shumate getting the 10-8 win at 195 lbs.

While a recruit of Feldman’s caliber will “fit in” with any lineup, Ohio State should be in need of a 285 lber once the 2022-23 season rolls around. Current starter(s) Tate Orndorff and Gary Traub are redshirt juniors and seniors, respectively.
